Square One Comnet (PTY) Ltd (SQ1C) was formed in March 1991 to merge the existing activities of Square One (PTY) Ltd and Comnet (PTY) Ltd Johannesburg, both of who were active in Lesotho and in many cases servicing the same customer base.

On the 1st June 2003 Square One Comnet changed its name to Comnet.
In 1989 the Wang distributor in South Africa (GBS) was placed in liquidation, largely as a result of the effect of the political situation in that country, which led to the cancellation of the distributor agreement between Wang and GBS. Steve George and Paul Swart, ex-GBS senior Wang VS support networking specialists, formed Comnet to continue with the supply and support of Wang equipment and particularly the design and support of computer networks. They were joined by additional ex-GBS staff and then negotiated a contract with Datakor Engineering for the country-wide support of the operating and networking software of the Wang customer base taken over by Datakor on the demise of GBS. Paul Swart, actively involved with the initial installation of the LHDA computer installation, continued to provide support services to LHDA. As a result, a strong relationship was developed between Square One Computers and Comnet, each of which had built up complimentary skills.
Recognising the business opportunities in Lesotho, particularly with the new generation of products available on the market, it made sense to merge the activities of Square One Computers and Comnet. This was achieved early in 1991 when Square One Comnet was formed.

To develop the company further and make it even more competitive the new name of Comnet was launched in June 2003. This complemented the move to our brand new premises with all the new technology and support infrastructure needed to sell and support the largest of clients.
